Traveling with your pet can be a tricky undertaking, especially if you are heading to a different country. On top of getting all your travel paperwork squared away, you have to make sure you have your dog’s health records, proof of microchip, rabies certification, International Health Certificate, and, depending on the country, an import permit. Plus, you need to make sure you check off all your airline’s requirements.

All documents need to be issued by a USDA-accredited veterinarian within a tight timeline. Any errors or delays can cause major ramifications, including delaying your flight, or possibly getting your dog confiscated at customs, which happened to world traveler and tech wiz, Lauren Anders Brown.

When Brown landed at Heathrow airport, her King Cavelier, Paddington, was taken by British customs for 24 hours, while they tried to figure out what went wrong. It turns out there were a series of paperwork errors from all parties involved. The confounding and distressing situation led Brown to create Pads Pass, an app that consolidates all your pet’s information into one digital travel pass.

The app will launch to Apple and Android users everywhere in September 2025. Currently, the app covers pet owners who are traveling between Canada, Mexico, the United States, Bermuda, and Barbados with their pets.

According to a press release, Pads Pass will minimize human error while creating digital IDs and health records for your pet in line with your final destination’s travel requirements. It will also help users with travel-related services, such as airlines, border agents, pet service providers, and pet travel.

As more people begin to use the app, it will expand to other countries as it’s Brown’s goal to work with customs agencies around the world. Thus far, she has successfully worked with the World Health Organization, the British Veterinary Association, the Royal Society of Public Health, and the International Air Travel Association.

While the app’s main function is to make international travel easier, pet owners can use the health information stored there for daycare providers, groomers, and pet sitters. Since microchip information is also stored, the app can aid in reuniting with your lost fur pal.

Pet owners also have the option to join Pads Pass’ membership-only VIPP services- very important pet parents. VIPPs have access to custom travel solutions. Keep an eye out for their launch in September, and happy travels.
