MADISON, Wis. — Dane County Humane Society received an extended holiday gift this year after Mounds Pet Food Warehouse delivered 10 pallets of pet donations through their annual “Humane Holidays” drive.
The partnership between Mounds Pet Food Warehouse and the shelter has continued for more than 20 years, bringing essential supplies to animals in need. This year’s drive collected food, treats, toys and supplies for dogs, cats and other small pets housed at the humane society.
The donation drive operates through customer contributions at Mounds Pet Food Warehouse locations. Staff members ask customers at checkout if they would like to make a donation to support the humane society’s mission.
“So each customer at the register will get asked, Would you like to make a donation? And for me, this was my first winter at humane holidays with mounds, and I was amazed at the number of donations that people were willing to give,” said a representative involved with the drive. “We had people that were giving full packs of dog food in multiple bags just off of the shelves and out of their carts. It was amazing to get this level of response this year.”
The generous response from customers resulted in the substantial 10-pallet donation that arrived at Dane County Humane Society after the Christmas holiday. The timing prompted shelter officials to note that Christmas came a little later this year due to the delayed arrival of the donations.
The donated items include essential supplies that directly support the daily operations of the animal shelter. Pet food forms a significant portion of the donation, addressing one of the shelter’s most consistent needs as they care for animals awaiting adoption.
Beyond basic food supplies, the donation includes treats that help with animal enrichment and training programs. Toys provide mental stimulation for animals during their stay at the shelter, while various supplies support the facility’s ongoing care operations.
