If you’ve ever thought about adopting a pet, now might be the perfect time. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control has dozens of dogs, cats, and even a few bunnies looking for their forever homes — and one of them could be your new best friend.

Adopting a pet doesn’t just change their life — it can change yours, too. Whether you’re hoping for a playful companion, a loyal walking buddy, or a gentle snuggler, there’s an animal at the shelter waiting to meet you.

This week’s featured pet is Tatum, a 2-year-old pup weighing about 40 pounds. Tatum is well-behaved, knows his commands, and is highly treat-motivated. He loves people, gets along great with others, and is ready to bring joy and energy to a new home.

Last week, the spotlight was on cats Zorro, Butch, Chimuelo, and the sweet dog Bogi.

Tatum is available today!

If now isn’t the right time to bring a pet home permanently, there are still several ways to make a difference:

  • Take a dog on a “day trip.”
A few hours outside the shelter can do wonders for a dog’s mental and emotional health. It’s also a fun way for you to spend a day giving back.

  • Foster for a night or weekend.
Known as a “staycation,” fostering provides dogs a break from the shelter and helps staff learn more about their personalities — which increases their chances of finding the right match.

  • Donate.
Monetary gifts, toys, treats, and pet supplies are always appreciated. Every donation goes directly toward improving the lives of animals waiting for adoption.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control is located at 8315 Byrum Drive, Charlotte, NC 28217.

To adopt, simply bring a valid ID and a leash or carrier. You can meet the animals in person, and if you find the perfect match, many can go home the same day.

Adoption fees range from $30 to $118, depending on the pet and services provided.

So whether you’re ready to adopt, foster, or simply spend some time with a furry friend, stop by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control,  because your next best friend might just be waiting there for you.
