Helping Your Dog Maintain Good Dental Health
Dogs and humans are similar in many aspects. One of those is the fact that dogs also experience dental health concerns. There’s a reason why we need to visit the dentist regularly and that is to make sure our teeth and gums are always in tiptop condition. The same goes for our canine buddies. The fact is just like humans, dogs also need regular and proper tooth and gum care for the reason that without it, they could develop tooth and gum infections, which in turn could threaten their very existence.
Unfortunately, it’s a lot more challenging to deal with a dog’s dental health for the reason that they can’t tell you what’s bothering them. Therefore, the most effective way of ensuring good dental health is by prevention. In other words, you need to consider making a routine or habit out of these three easy ways to make sure your dog’s mouth is healthy.
1 – Brush their teeth regularly.
If you can’t stand the idea of not being able to brush your teeth for several days, the same thing goes for dogs. But dogs don’t really need to have their teeth brushed every day, since good oral hygiene for them means brushing at least a couple of time a week. The one thing you want to avoid by brushing your pet’s teeth regularly is gum disease, which primarily is brought about by the buildup of plaque and tartar.
2 – Dry food is better for dental health.
Wet food is definitely a preference for most dogs. However, you should know that wet food is not ideal when it comes to promoting good oral health for your dog. You may not be aware of it but feeding them wet food for the most part means speeding up the process of tartar and plaque accumulation. Dry food on the other hand requires them to chew and break down the food with more effort, which means the current buildup will be removed as they eat. Therefore, eating dry food is more like a way of cleaning the teeth.
3 – Give your dog healthy and smart treats.
Finally, look for dog treats that promote good oral health, including but not limited to dog dental chews that actually help in freshening their breath and cleaning their teeth.
Now you probably have realized that it really won’t bother you that much to take good care of your dog’s dental health since all you need to do is give them a little more love and care.
